Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
The short version. BLUR is built to keep tonight off your record — not to mine your life. Your Screen Time app selections and your selfies stay on your iPhone. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we never read your messages. BLUR is for adults (18+).
This policy explains what BLUR ("we", "us") collects, why, and the control you have. It applies to the BLUR iOS app and this website. Questions? lennon@downloadblur.com.
What BLUR handles, and where it lives
App & website selections (Screen Time)
BLUR blocks apps using Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls framework. Your selections are represented by opaque tokens that Apple keeps on your device — we never see which specific apps you chose, and that information is not sent to us or anyone else.
Camera & selfies
If you use Selfie Gate, BLUR captures a photo to score your "state" for your morning Blurred. This is processed on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Selfies are stored locally and only saved to your Photos if you choose to. They are not uploaded to our servers.
Photos
With your permission, BLUR can show what you captured during a night and save your Blurred slides to a "BLUR" album in your Photos so you can share them. We don't access the rest of your photo library.
Location (optional)
If you allow it, BLUR uses your location during a session to log venues for your Blurred, and background location to auto-end your session when you get home. Location is used for these features on your device. You can turn it off any time in iOS Settings; the rest of BLUR keeps working.
Contacts (optional)
If you set an emergency contact, BLUR reads your contacts so you can pick one. Your contacts stay on your device.
Notes you write
Notes you leave for "tomorrow-you" are stored with your session on your device.
Purchases
BLUR+ subscriptions and the Night Pass are handled by Apple and our purchases provider RevenueCat. We receive purchase and entitlement status (e.g. whether you're subscribed) — never your card number. See RevenueCat's privacy policy and Apple's.
Product analytics & diagnostics
We use PostHog to understand how people use BLUR — events like screens viewed and features used — so we can make it better. This is aggregate product usage, not the contents of your night. We don't sell this data. See PostHog's privacy policy.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal data.
- We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don't read your messages, emails, or browsing.
- We don't upload your selfies or your app list to our servers.
Retention
On-device data (sessions, notes, selfies, app selections) lives on your iPhone and is removed when you delete it or uninstall the app. Purchase records are retained by Apple/RevenueCat per their policies. Analytics events are retained by PostHog for a limited period.
Your choices
- Permissions: grant or revoke Camera, Photos, Location, Contacts, Notifications, and Screen Time any time in iOS Settings.
- Delete: delete sessions in-app, or uninstall BLUR to remove on-device data.
- Requests: email lennon@downloadblur.com for any privacy request.
Children
BLUR is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app or here.
